"I like clothing not fashion,"
says Nick Wakeman, founder and creative director of Studio Nicholson. The brand launched in 2010, now having over two decades of experience in the fashion industry, Wakeman has poured her knowledge into building a streamlined label that focuses on materials first. "The idea for Studio Nicholson lies in making every day and commonplace garments exceptionally beautiful and flawlessly modern," she says. "I am infatuated with the idea of the ordinary in place of any kind of fantasy."

Japanese design and architecture remain constant sources of inspiration for Wakeman, especially the work of architect Tadao Ando, whose use of space and concrete informed the design of Studio Nicholson’s Tokyo flagship. "I think about clothing in quite an architectural way, "she explains. Her interest lies in experimenting with angles, cuts, and construction, how a slight shift or cut in the line of a garment can change its entire presence."

Wakeman’s dedication to refining timeless pieces, reworking, modernizing, and reimagining them, has shaped a brand known for its bold yet wearable essentials. The label’s very first collection drew directly from her own wardrobe: crisp shirts, denim, and tailored menswear-style jackets. In 2017, Studio Nicholson expanded into menswear, and recently, in the last year, has introduced its first line of luxury handbags. Every garment goes through a detailed design phase, including up to five rounds of fittings to perfect the silhouette and construction.
