Pendley honored at 'Dream Day Giveaway'

Ann Pendley, a breast cancer survivor since 2004, this week was named the winner of the "Dream Day Giveway" hosted by Tula Contemporary Women's Clothing in Old Town Fort Collins.

The shop partnered with several local businesses to offer clothing, a hair and makeup makeover, dinner and a stay at the Armstrong Hotel for the winner nominated by people throughout the community.

Pendley received $500 worth of clothes, shoes, and accessories from Tula as well as a consultation from the Tula Style Team, a complete hair makeover courtesy of The Parlour Salon, a makeup makeover with expert Dana Kurtz, a mani/pedi courtesy of Body and Spa Rituals, and a special dinner for two at Jax Fish House Fort Collins following the makeover.

Pendley was featured in the Oct. 7 Coloradoan special Breast Cancer Awareness edition.

Pendley, owner of the Speech and Language Stimulation Center, was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. In 2004, she learned that her breast cancer which had been in remission for nearly four years had metastasized and spread throughout her body.

"It spread to the lungs; we weren't sure about the liver," she said. "Now, it's in my bones. It's in all the lobes of my lungs. It's in my lymph nodes.

The cancer is incurable, but every day, despite the drug side effects that inflame her hands and feet she reports for work.

"This is just living with it every day," Pendley said. "I'm not fighting cancer. I don't like that concept of I'm a cancer survivor, or I'm fighting the good battle with cancer."
